     Habitat Happenings - December 2021

It is really happening – again! Another year comes to a close triggering us to ruminate on the previous twelve months. A stalwart team of individuals working collectively on our mission has us really rising to the top in all facets of this thriving organization. Enclosed in this newsletter you will find several examples of our past, present and future endeavors. The lessons learned from operating in this altered world still linger, but I see them as proof that we have what it takes to maintain strong forward momentum even when outside forces are against us. We hope you stay with us on this ride and are as excited as we are for more to come.

Current Build

Meet Bill, Carman, Mike, Paul, John and Dave. They are a "handful" of the Habitat volunteer crew members who show up on Tuesdays and Thursdays ready and eager to build our current Habitat house. In the next month this house will become a home to our family partner Shawna and her 10 year old son. Our build and ReStore volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We couldn't do any of this without them. Click the pic to see one of the highlights of this nearly finished home.

Meet Tom

Now meet Tom. For the second year in a row Tom has visited each participating brewery of the Beer that Built the House. He has tried all of the beers and has had every brewery sign his shirt! Hands down Tom is the best beer "fun"raiser ever. So what's Tom's story?

A few years ago Tom retired and became a part time beer tender in the Cape, where he very much enjoyed the South Jersey Beer scene. He started working at COHO on the day of the initial Habitat Brewery meeting, and thought it was not only a great thing to do, but that it was also super cool! He now works for 7 Mile, hence the photo above. We reached out to ask Tom if we could feature his awesomeness in our monthly newsletter. Besides saying yes, he also said, "I enjoyed the "Habitat Brew Tour" and having the shirt signed, and enjoyed the beers as well as the conversation along the way with owners, brewers and beer tenders. I think a passport of sort would be a great addition to the project! Thanks Tom, we love your input and will bring your idea to nexts years meetings.

Thanks for being our #1 Beer "Fun"raiser.

Thank You Rio Station

Our most sincere thanks to the Rutherford family for hosting the kickoff of the Beer that Built the House at the Rio Station. For Chef Ricks preparation of the evenings menu and your generous donation of $2,800 from the beer proceeds was an incredible way to launch the event.

Habitat Ramp Program

We are excited and thankful to announce that Univest Financial has supported the Reusable Ramp initiative with a $5,000 grant! This coming year Habitat Cape May will launch it's first sustainable ramp program. Habitat's reusable ramp program will help seniors and people with disabilities in our community connect with the places they love and the places they need the most.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far in support of this years Giving Tuesday, you have made a huge difference in working towards reaching the fundraising goal. If you would like to help advance Habitat's reusable ramp program you can still donate by clicking the button below.
