5 years ago this fall our family learned of our daughter's true diagnosis, Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T for short). From then on it has felt as though there has been a detour at every possible turn. Our daughter was only 7 years old at the time and our son just turned 1 year. A-T is a rare, hereditary condition characterized by progressive neurologic problems that lead to difficulty walking, feeding and swallowing issues, lung disease with immunodeficiencies and an increased risk of developing various types of cancer. We are very much in need of an affordable, one level home with ramps and many modifications for her to feel secure and gain some independence back.

Nine years ago we moved into an upstairs duplex on an extremely busy street at an unsafe bend. Horrific accidents often happen in front of our house. We have been praying and searching for our dream home with all the necessary modifications and an accessible backyard that is safe for both children. However, we cannot afford a house in the current market. It is financially challenging to fully care for a special and medical needs child. The majority of her caregiving is done by me, including travel to and from Philly for appointments with specialists.

Well, we are now living proof that God answers prayers. That's why with God all things are possible. We are forever grateful to everyone at HHCMC who are making this dream come true, turning our wishes into actual reality for the 4 of us. It feels surreal. We know this blessing is coming at such a good part of our journey, that we cannot wait to call this future house "our home sweet home". - Miriam

It’s finally happened! We have an excavation contractor to clear the densely forested land on Ocean Avenue. Both lots are packed with mature growth trees and brush. For months we have been desperately seeking a response and/or action on a proposal from a multitude of companies.

As of Monday, June 6^th, we can officially say a deposit has been made and we are now on the schedule. In order to get to the point where we can break out the power tools, the alignment of many moving parts is happening in the background. Bringing together architects, engineers, municipal offices, sub-contractors and suppliers is an art form and we are working to perfect that with each project. At this time, we have five projects on the board and continue to take steps daily to move each of them along. Two of those projects have the potential to house several families so we are especially excited for what the future holds.

The promising part about our position with so many opportunities is that we are financially poised for and have planned to be able to manage them all, thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors, volunteers and the success of the ReStore.

Saturday, June 11th will be the last day to bid on the two playhouses located in the front of the Habitat ReStore. We will announce the highest bidder at 4pm.
