     Habitat Happenings - February 2022

On Thursday, January 27th we welcomed homeowner Shawna Hayes and her son Jackson. This moment is the culmination of all that Habitat for Humanity is about, as we passed the keys and joined them for the first time in their new home. It was a magical moment that we would like to share with our Habitat friends and family. Please click the picture to watch the video.

Thank You Mike Plitnick

The sounds of hammers pounding and pneumatic tools whirring is ringing in my head as I recall a walk through at the Redwood build not so long ago. You can witness that magic HERE  It’s a picture perfect glimpse of just a few seconds of one busy day and it’s thrilling! There is nothing like seeing the productivity to add to the excitement of knowing a family is that much closer to homeownership. This possibility exists due to the supervision of volunteers, the coordination of the build and the expertise needed by the role of the Construction Manager. When we were faced with a vacancy for that position not so long ago, we were saved by the willingness of longtime local builder, Mike Plitnick. He dove right into it, donning a hard hat, head first. His contribution to Habitat Cape May will forever be found in house #18 and #19 and we, along with the homeowners, are eternally grateful. Mike won’t be far, you will likely see him around town as he continues to build and improve area homes as an independent contractor. We wish him continued success and thank him for seeing us through as we welcome a newcomer to the position.

Welcome Hugo Aimone

Hugo joined us on February 1 as the new Construction Manager. His arrival here will provide a heavy focus on expanding and strengthening our construction activities. He will work to package our home builds so we can methodically and seamlessly move from one build to the next. With 15+ years of experience and a proven knowledge of blueprint review, turnkey construction, renovation, budget, scheduling and project management we are confident he will add value to the success of Habitat Cape May. As we embark on house #20 on East Ocean Avenue in Upper Township, Hugo will hit the ground running along with key members of the Construction Committee very soon. Site control has likely happened while you are reading this. Stay tuned for more information from Hugo and his department as he settles in and prepares to call on our trusted and invaluable group of build volunteers to get started. There will be opportunity to formally meet Hugo, but in the meantime please feel free to stop by the ReStore to say hello and welcome him any Tuesday-Thursday.

Join us at our upcoming fundraiser. Bring your friends and family anytime between 10:30am to 2:30pm for a fun time to support a great cause.

Applications for Habitat's Homeownership program are now available in the ReStore.

Current Donation Drive

We recently saw a call to action asking for donated blankets to warm up our furry friends at the Cape May County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. On a visit to the shelter we learned that they were in need of so much more. With over 300 Kitties, they require a continuous supply of wash cloths, towels, sheets and blankets. We dug a little deeper to find the shelter's wish list where they are  also asking for cat food, dry grain free dog food, dog treats, paper towels and Clorox Clean Ups!

Thanks to our cat loving ReStore manager, the ReStore will accept donations to help the shelter from January to March. Please tell your friends and share the flyer on your social media pages.
